MatR: Material Registry
2026 · UK
A prototype web-based tool for aggregating building data about materials, performance and environmental impact to assess energy transition options and climate futures.
Developed in partnership with the Center for Spatial Technologies, MatR (Material Registry) is a prototype web-based tool for aggregating building data about materials, performance and environmental impact.
The project aims to establish a digital registry at the building address level that allows users to assess the resource impact and expected operational performance of proposed changes to the built environment (whether retrofit, new build).
Currently, we’re using MatR to explore the impacts of alternative national retrofit strategies; using building model visualization with data on energy performance simulation, environmental impact, and material circularity. The tool is designed to integrate with Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems, allowing architects, developers, and city officials to host wider discussions on potential decisions on material selection, retrofit design, and operational efficiency.
